Fire Investigation

Fire Investigation

The Lebanon Fire District investigates every fire which occurs within our district boundaries to determine the cause and origin of the fire. In situations where a fire appears suspicious or the cause is not easily identified the Lebanon Fire Investigation Team (LFIT) may be activated to perform a more detailed investigation.

The LFIT is made up of career and volunteer firefighters as well as members of the Lebanon Police Department who are highly trained in the subject of fire investigation. The team is able to bring specialized investigation equipment to the scene where they use scientific methods to determine what caused the fire, document their findings, and compile an investigation report.

Determining the cause of a fire is important for a number of reasons, the most prominent being the ability to prove accidental cause versus intentionally set fires and to gather data on fire cause which provides direction for future public education and community risk reduction opportunities aimed at minimizing community risk factors.
