Burn Permit FAQs

Why do I have to apply for a slash burn or agricultural burn permit?
The Lebanon Fire District is requiring slash burn and agricultural burn permits so that we can be aware of planned burns taking place within our district. Often, during the burning season, concerned citizens will see a slash burn or agricultural burn and not understand that it is controlled and call it in to 9-1-1, which then requires LFD to respond with multiple personnel and apparatus, costing money to the District and taxpayers and tying up resources from responding to actual emergencies. The Lebanon Fire District responds to nearly 7,000 calls over a 400+ square mile area each year, and we are utilizing the burn permitting process as a way to cut down on false alarm calls.

Is there a fee for a permit?
No, there is no fee for a slash or agricultural burn permit.

Does a permit mean I am clear to burn?
Not yet. In addition to the permit, you are still responsible to contact the proper burn information hotlines to see if burning is permitted that day. For agricultural burning, contact the grower hotline at (503) 986-4755. For slash burning, arrangements need to be made through the Fire & Life Safety Division at (541) 451-1901, Monday through Thursday, including for weekend approval. Prior to starting your burn, please contact the Lebanon Fire District at the number provided on your permit to let the Battalion Chief know you are starting your burn.

I want to do a slash burn this weekend, but permits are only issued Monday through Thursday, how do I get approved for the weekend?
While you must apply for a permit during the week, you can put future dates on your permit application. Your burn permit will then be valid for the date range that you indicate, including weekends.

I cleared some shrubs and vines from my yard and want to burn them now that it’s burn season, do I need a permit?
