As a volunteer firefighter you can expect to perform the duty of protecting life, combating fires, and conservation of property. Our volunteer firefighter members are required to complete a firefighter academy before being able to participate in drill and respond to emergencies. There are two opportunities for volunteer fire academies per year; one in the spring and one in the fall. During firefighter academy, you will learn basic firefighter skills to obtain your NFPA Firefighter 1 certification. Here is a limited list of duties a volunteer firefighter performs:

Responds to fire alarms and emergencies with fire company apparatus.
Performs hose lays, salvage, rescue, ventilation, ladder usage, and cleans up firefighter equipment and tools as needed.
Maintains fire station equipment and grounds including routine housekeeping and maintenance duties such as painting, mopping, cleaning, and general grounds work.
Practices firefighting skills in organized drills.
Practices hose/ladder evolutions, pump operations, and participates in fire training programs.
Acts effectively and calmly in emergency situations.
Must have physical strength and agility to perform the work of the classification as established by the fire department.
